Exmoor inspires a passionate devotion in tens of thousands of people. With scenery at once romantic, bordering on the mythic, and yet at the same time a functioning environment in which people live and work, the particular atmosphere of Exmoor acts like a magnet and draws people back again and again.

Within its relatively small area Exmoor is amazingly diverse. Its coastline is one of the most unspoilt and best protected to be found anywhere in Britain whilst, unlike many other moorland areas found in the UK, Exmoor is full of tiny hamlets and settlements, like the village of Exford right in the centre.

There are three main Exmoor rivers – the Exe, Barle and Lyn. Although the Exe is the “name” river of Exmoor, many consider that the Barle should carry that mantle, being a much larger river before it merges with the Exe at Exbridge. There are also several wooded areas to be found on the Moor. Substantial stands of oak, ash, beech and birch give rise to a fantastic palette of autumnal colours in late October, November and holding on sometimes to early December. Elsewhere, Exmoor’s characteristic beech hedges that divide each farm unit, criss-cross the landscape and infuse it with a spectacular pastel green in early May.

Glorious Exmoor in all its moods is illustrated in this superbly produced Address Book. Nearly 50 images by master-photographer Peter Hendrie make this book as decorative as it is useful, an ideal gift and a perfect memento of one of the most beautiful parts of Britain.
