Exmoor is the second smallest of England’s National Parks, barely 267 square miles. Nevertheless it possesses some of the most diverse and spectacular landscapes to be found anywhere in the country. Peter Hendrie’s photographs of the moor rarely portray clear azure skies or flatly-sun-drenched landscapes. Instead – as the more than 50 superb images in this book clearly demonstrate – his inspiration comes rather from stormy skies which produce a sense of drama and foreboding and from morning mists after night-time rain which invest the countryside with a rose blush. He rises magnificently to the challenge of portraying Exmoor’s uniqueness and special magic. Peter Hendrie is not merely content with the pretty scene or picturesque view.
